A urethane rubber potting compound is used to insulate or conceal electrical circuitry in professional and industrial applications while in the testing phase. AeroMarine urethane potting compounds are made from two-part urethane rubber.
Once cured, our urethane rubber potting compound can shield your circuitry from vibration, debris, and moisture.
Shake the 2 sides well for up to 10 minutes. Pour equal parts of A and B into separate containers. Mix both parts together in an additional clean plastic container. Use a plastic or metal stirring utensil to thoroughly mix the urethane rubber potting compound. To ensure that the compound is well-mixed, be sure to scrape the sides of the container and stir from the bottom. Mix for 2 minutes until the urethane rubber potting compound is a uniform color.
Use a small brush to apply a light layer of urethane potting over your circuitry or device to break the surface tension and help prevent air bubbles. Pour the remainder of the urethane into one corner of the box so it can spread naturally throughout the area. Remember to work quickly as you have a 5-minute pot life with this material.
Curing should take about 12 hours. Urethanes are moisture-sensitive so be sure to use in a controlled environment with low humidity.
AeroMarine’s urethane rubber potting compound is primarily used when potting parts for underwater or deep water applications. The best way to remove an electronic urethane potting compound is by using a solvent that will slowly soften the potting compound and pick away at it with a sharp tool such as a putty knife or file. Work in a well-ventilated area with a breathing apparatus or respirator and carefully pick away at the potting compound without accidentally cutting wires or other pieces of your electrical equipment. It is very difficult to remove urethane potting compound without damaging the items underneath so make sure your parts are finalized before applying this product.
