How much resin dye do I need for my project?

How much resin dye you need for your project depends on how much casting resin you’re going to use, and it also depends on the color and brightness that you’re trying to achieve. It may take a little experimentation to get a color that’s more specific.

Generally, a bottle of colorant will dye a full gallon of Part B a strong solid color. Keep in mind that the white base makes the colors muted.

How do I incorporate casting resin dye into my resin?

Here’s how to die casting resin: first, you need to mix the dye with the Part B component of your casting resin. Pour Part B into a clean, plastic container and then add your dye colorant until you’re happy with the color. Then add Part A into the mix and stir thoroughly. Use a second container to stir the mix again.

Liquid dye typically creates a cast that has a smooth color.

What casting dye colorants are available?

Are you trying to create a cast that’s a specific color? Pick the dye colorant that’s closest to your desired color. Then, you can add additional dye colorants to create a color mixture that will give you your desired color. Add one of the primary colors, or add white to brighten or black to darken.

Be mindful of whether you choose to use white casting resin or black casting resin—you won’t be able to create color resin when you’re using black resin for your cast. The black casting resin does best if you want to paint the finished part a dark color once it is cured. If there’s a color you’re unable to create with dye colorant and the white urethane resin, you might consider painting your cast once it has hardened.
