How can I create my own custom soap molds?

Here’s how to make silicone soap molds at home.

1. 1. First, find a soap-sized part that you can mold. You can choose anything to be your soap mold original so long as it’s not too thin. Try not to mold a valuable, irreplaceable item because you don’t want it to get blemished or damaged in the molding process.

   2. Apply hot glue to the bottom of your original and place it into a small box that’s made from cardboard or stiff plastic you can go with a square-shaped box if you want a square bar of soap, or you can find an oval box (chocolate boxes work well) if you want an oval-shaped bar of soap. You want a space between ¼” and ½” between the mold item and the sides and top of the box.

   3. Carefully pour the silicone rubber into one corner of the box until it’s a ¼” to ½” above the top of the glued down part. Wait until the mold cures, and then strip away the box. Carefully extract your mold item and you’ll be left with a perfect custom silicone soap mold.

Why are silicone molds popular for soap molds?

Silicone molds are great for soap making because they’re so easy to use. All you’ve got to do is stir, pour, and release. To create a silicone mold, you only need to have the silicone solution, a cup for mixing with stirring sticks, a mold box to pour into, a glue gun, your original shape, and plastic gloves. There’s little setup so you can create soap molds almost anywhere.

What are some fun soap mold shape ideas?

There are so many different soap mold shapes you can create! The only limit is your imagination. If you’re trying to craft soap bars that aren’t circular or rectangular, you might want to create a soap mold that’s shaped like a star, diamond, or moon.

You can create holiday-themed soap molds, too, which make for great holiday gifts. Create an Easter-egg shaped mold for Easter, a Christmas-tree or candy cane-shaped molds for Christmas, and a heart mold for Valentine’s Day.
