How much concrete epoxy do I need?

Calculate about 200 square feet per 1 gallon mixed epoxy at 10 mil thickness. We recommend 2 coats on a concrete or cement floor. Rough or uneven concrete may need more epoxy applied for an even surface.

How do you epoxy a concrete floor?

Concrete floors in warehouses and garages can get dirty pretty quickly. If you want to maintain a clean and fresh look in your home or business, it’s best to invest in concrete resin. To epoxy a concrete floor, follow these steps:

1. Completely clean out your garage. To achieve a spotless epoxy concrete floor, you need to be fully prepared. This means sweeping out your garage and vacuuming, as well as investing in the right safety equipment and materials.
2. Once you’ve vacuumed and swept out your garage, use degreaser and a bristle brush and vigorously scrub out any oil, grease, or gas stains. Then, grab a hose and hose down the entire floor.
3. Once your concrete floor is wet, use an electric floor scrubber or bristle broom and scrub the entire floor with a mixture of cleaner and degreaser.
4. Once the floor is scrubbed, use a heavy-duty vacuum, such as a ShopVac, and vacuum up the water and dispose of it according to the manufacturer’s directions.
5. After your concrete floors are degreased, it’s time to acid etch. With a 10:1 ratio of water to muriatic acid, sprinkle the mixture across the entire concrete floor and begin scrubbing. Once you feel satisfied with your scrubbing, use a hose and rinse out the entire area for 10 to 15 minutes to ensure the mixture is diluted and removed.
6. Once your concrete floor is etched, let it dry for 24 hours or until the concrete has regained its original color.
7. After your concrete floors are dried, patch any cracks or holes using concrete repair epoxy and use a putty knife to create a smooth finish.
8. Now it’s time to assemble your concrete epoxy coating. Using AeroMarine’s epoxy coating, grab a bucket and mix no more than 1.5 gallons total of the epoxy resin and hardener together. Once mixed, pour them into a second bucket and mix again. Pour the epoxy into a paint roller pan to spread out the heat and to make it easier to roll out.

9. If you have a large area to cover section off portions with painters tape and start in the farthest area first. Use a paint roller to cover the area. Pull up the separation tape for the finished section. Mix up a new batch and continue until the full surface is covered. Portioning off the areas will allow you to mix up smaller amounts and use the epoxy within its half hour work life.

10. Finally, once the first coat has cured, apply a second coat of epoxy concrete sealer to finish it off. Once dried, you’ll have an immaculate concrete epoxy floor!

How do I remove epoxy from concrete?

If your warehouse floors or your home’s basement is covered in epoxy, you can purchase an epoxy solvent such as paint stripper that will dissolve the cured epoxy, which you can scrape away using a long-handled metal scraper. It’s important to ventilated area well and use the appropriate PPE gear. You may need to repeat this process multiple times to remove all the epoxy.

You can also use an industrial grinder to grind the epoxy away.
