How to store your Epoxy Resin, Urethane, Silicone and/or Latex so that it does not get ruined in cold weather
Sweltering summer temps lead now to lovely, cool weather. Yeah, we know. We live in mild San Diego and don’t ever get really “hot or cold” weather, but we still like autumn a lot. With cooler weather comes the need to store our products properly. Correct storage includes wherever your delivery person drops off your packages.
Epoxy
Our epoxy resins will thicken and “freeze” at 50F. To prevent this, please keep your epoxy containers off the floor (on a shelf or pallet etc.) and as close to 72F/23C as possible. You can thaw “frozen” epoxy by placing your tightly sealed container in a bucket or sink full of hot, not boiling water. Replenish the hot water until the resin is free of “ice crystals” and fully liquid for you to pour it.
Urethane
Urethanes are very moisture sensitive before cured. Use between 65F and 75F in a humidity controlled environment. You can use an aerosol nitrogen blanket to protect your urethane casting resin or urethane rubber from moisture contamination. As with the epoxy resin, keep your urethanes off the floor. Sitting on a cold floor hinders the urethanes’ performance and cure.
Silicone
Store your silicone off the floor (you’ve heard this before) and at 72F/23C. While it is curing, maintain the room temperature at no less than 65F. Otherwise, it won’t cure properly. Don’t store silicone at temperatures higher than 75F because it will decrease the life of the uncured silicone.
Latex
Latex is extremely temperature-sensitive! That’s why we have special expedited shipping available for latex during cold months when you call toll-free at 1(877)342-8860 to place your order. Don’t ever let latex freeze; it will be completely ruined. You must have room temperature 72F/23C storage for your latex even when it is delivered. It cannot sit on a cold porch /mailbox/doorstep until you get home.
**Please remember that it may take several days to bring your products up to room temp during colder weather, so plan your project /application accordingly. Cold weather often causes shipping delays which means you will need to check with UPS or USPS on the shipping status of your package.
